Boolean operations and composite solids The basic and swept solids which have been created are called primitives and are the ‘basic tools’ for solid modelling. With these primitives the user can create composite solids, so called because they are ‘composed’ of two or more solid primitives, i.e. a) primitive: a box, wedge, cylinder, extrusion, etc. b) composite: a solid made from two or more primitives.
