ABSTRACT
This chapter covers the scope and nature of construction activities and the moral, legal and fi nancial consequences of failing to manage health and safety in the construction industry. Details of the amended Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations
are given. Since these regulations now incorporate the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (CHSW), they form the legal foundations for the management of health and safety in construction activities.
