ABSTRACT

The word “foundation” refers to the cap or base to which hair is attached to make a wig. Custom theatrical wig foundations for wigs that are supposed to look like “real” hair growing out of the head are usually made of special lightweight, open-weave fabrics called lace or net . Laces and nets come in many weights, stiffness, densities, and levels of stretch. Sometimes special opaque silk fabrics or a type of leather called chamois are used.
