ABSTRACT

DMX512-A (see Chapter 22, on page 217) dominates the world of lighting control because it is simple to use and implement, and it works well. However, as the lighting market has matured and expanded, and new devices have been invented, the limitations of DMX have become apparent, especially in large or complex systems or those with sophisticated devices. To help address the complexities of modern systems, “ESTA E1.20-2006, Entertainment Technology – RDM, Remote Device Management Over DMX512 Networks” was developed. Remote Device Management (RDM) is an extension to-not a replacement for-DMX.
