ABSTRACT

Now that we have covered some of the basics of data communications systems, we will discuss what we use to actually move bits from one place to another: the physical communications media. Each type of media has advantages and disadvantages given a particular application: Electrical signals can be used to send data signals over wire (the most common method); light can be used to send signals through the air or through fiber-optic cables; or radio waves can be used to carry information. We’ll cover a brief overview of each in this section.
