ABSTRACT

Changes in the condition of women undoubtedly represent some of the most important milestones of social development in the twentieth century. However, this process has been neither easy nor linear. Every appeal for women’s equality has been questioned and contested; every manifestation of the feminist movement has been ridiculed, discredited, opposed, defined as dangerous, or even repressed. But, every victory has had a dramatic impact on the lives of the women who witnessed it and every advance has translated into rights for future generations.
