ABSTRACT

The SM's chain of command list is the first of several important lists an SM needs to have. Throughout the life of a production, the SM will refer to this list for any number of reasons: keeping departments informed, providing a list of program credits to the publicity department, assuring no one is forgotten, or creating a guest roster for a social event. The chain of command list created in this chapter is complete and comprehensive. Ir is ordered and structured from the SM's point of view. However, as the SM moves from show to show, production company to production company, some of the positions may be excluded or combined, depending on the size of the company and/or financial structure of the show. As a fail-safe measure, the chain of command list in this book includes people and organizations that are seldom, if ever, part of the chain of command. They are nonetheless important to the SM as areminder of their presence so they too can be informed or dealt with at the proper times.
