ABSTRACT
Carpentry is one of the oldest artisan skills co-opted by the props artisan. Every culture that exists near trees utilizes wood as a construction material in some way. The mass production of modern power tools and machines, along with the ready availability of lumber and lumber-based sheet goods, have made it possible for even the most basic of shops to quickly turn out furniture, cabinetry, and other wooden items for use on the stage or screen.
