ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how to simulate the third dimension, using tools that have been present in Photoshop right from the very beginning. Three-dimensional (3D) modeling in Photoshop is not just an idle dream, but a very real and viable option. 3D started inauspiciously in Photoshop, with the ability to import models and rotate and scale them. As well as dragging directly on the object the readers can use the 3D Controller to manipulate it. The Properties panel (left) is the main control panel for 3D objects. One of the great new features in Photoshop CS6 is how much easier it is to integrate a 3D model into a scene. Photoshop has made a huge leap forward in its handling of 3D objects, particularly in the key area of the final render. 3D layers are one of the most significant features of Photoshop CS6 — but the readers will need to have the Extended Edition in order to use it.
