ABSTRACT

Multinational enterprises (MNEs) are the single most important vehicle today for effecting international transfers of funds, technology, management skills, and products. The costs and benefits of these firms' activities in home and host countries are the subject of intense debate in the United States and abroad, as governments try to devise ways to harness MNEs' economic and political power. 1 The purpose of this chapter is to add to the understanding of economic impacts of multinational firms in host countries. Specifically, the chapter presents findings of a study of foreign manufacturing MNEs operating in Venezuela.
