The fine grain myth At any given time in photographic history photographers have endeav­ ored to achieve better image quality than they could get with the films then available. By the early 1900s, astronomers and other scientists were clamoring for better image quality. By the 1920s image quality had become an enormous concern for the emerging movie industry. By the 1930s, with the new popularity of 35mm cameras, still photographers became more vocal than ever on this score.
