ABSTRACT
The image adjustment controls discussed in the preceding chapter take care ofthe regular image enhancements. So now we shall get to grips with the finetuning aspects of the Photoshop image adjustment controls, not to mention some of the fun things which can be done while playing around with color. The Curves, Color Balance and Variations image adjustments allow you to exercise control over what happens to the color in either the shadows, highlights or midtones. Yet there are times when you want to narrow down the adjustments further and just work on a particular range of colors only, without affecting the overall color balance. It is also important to stress here that the color data in an image can easily become lost through repeated image adjustments. It is a bit like trying to carry a round of drinks from the bar – the less steady your hand, the more drink that gets spilt. The glasses will never get fuller, only emptier. Pixel color information will progressively become lost through successive adjustments as the pixel values are rounded off.
