ABSTRACT
During the day I taught in a Board School in a wretched quarter in the East-End. [At night] I studied Fourier, Owen, Lasalle, Karl Marx, and all those who had contributed towards an ideal construction of society. That was a delightful and busy time, full of interest and grappling with the problems of life. 1
