ABSTRACT

In the past, zoom lenses never quite produced the quality of performance demanded by the discerning underwater photographer. The popular choices for underwater use were the Nikon 24-mm50-mm, Nikon 35-mm-70-mm and the Sigma 24-mm-70-mm lenses. They were neither a true wide-angle nor macro lenses, but a general-purpose option. With various lengths of extension they could be used behind dome ports with gears to control the zooming facilities. The fixed focal lenses capable of producing the quality required were (and still are) the Nikon, Canon, Sigma and Tamron equivalents to the 20-mm and 24-mm prime lens and the 60-mm macro and 105-mm macro.
