ABSTRACT

When you take a photograph, your camera writes a file to its memory card. Choose either RAW or JPEG, or a combination of the two. The RAW vs JPEG debate is discussed in detail in Chapter 10.

At some point your memory cards holding your digital pictures will become full and you will need to download them to a computer station, a laptop or portable hard-drive storage. For downloading, I strongly recommend you use a memory card reader. The advantage is that you don’t have to remove your camera from the housing – you simply remove the memory card from the camera and place it into the card reader. Card readers hardly need an introduction, but there are several types available and care should be taken in choosing the best one. The things to bear in mind are connectivity and the speed of data transfer. If you

download from 2-GB or 4-GB memory cards, it’s a good idea to choose a high-speed option.
