ABSTRACT

Occasional photographic encounters will be spontaneous. Dolphins, sharks and manta rays may only pass by once, and when they do we just shoot from the hip and hope for the best. In a situation such as this, there is very little time to think about anything other than pressing the shutter button before the opportunity disappears into the blue. It’s a cliché in photography that ‘film is cheap’. That being the case, digital exposures are free of charge! Don’t hesitate to shoot, shoot, shoot. Professional photographers may spend the whole day on one subject. Don’t limit yourself to five, ten or fifteen shoots; take as many as you feel you need to capture what you are after. You can always edit and delete after the dive is over.
