These include file formats such as TIFF, PICT, JPEG, etc. In a bitmapped image the elements of the picture are mapped as individual screen display pixels. The image is stored in an array of binary information. Each pixel of the picture is represented by one bit or binary piece of information (in the case of a greyscale bitmap each pixel requires 8 bits which can represent 256 levels of grey).
