ABSTRACT
With printing before the digital revolution, images were often copied back onto negative, reprinted, retouched, copied, each generation progressively losing more shadow and highlight detail. If you have ever been fortunate enough to see a f i r s t generation print of a Charlie Chaplin film the quality is remarkable. N o t the muddy copies of copies that we normally see. The same applies t o all analog forms.
