Shooting in full manual mode provides total artistic control but demands the utmost attention to detail and some basic knowledge of exposure. You can decide which way to go based on how much control you want to have, and your familiarity with the relationship of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. The beauty of the Nikon design is the ability to move gradually from the fully automatic modes to the more advanced creative modes. You can decide at what point in the process you are most comfortable and work from there.
