ABSTRACT
Yunnan has traditionally been regarded as the transit area for a flourishing trade between the Indian region and the Han-Chinese region. This activity is said to have originated long before the Han dynasty (206 B.C.—A.D. 220), but at least for the period under discussion, there is still too scant evidence for proclaiming it a ‘Southern Silk Road’. 1
