Introduction

In Asia the first known 'texts' were writtenl on palm leaves or carved in stone and the oldest Chinese writing was made on bones and tortoise shells around 1300 BC These texts like the Indian Vedic Hymns2 contained knowledge from one generation to another about the existence of the supernatural as well as instruction of important rituals.
