ABSTRACT

If you are on a budget, we recommend finding a good used Epson 2200 (Figure 9-1). (The Epson 2200 is known as the 2100 throughout most of the world). These older machines are available rather inexpensively, yet they have excellent print heads and will make negatives up to 13 19 inches in size. They can be driven with either the Epson

driver or with the QuadTone RIP. Support for the Epson 2200 with the QuadTone RIP makes the Epson 2200 an excellent printer for digital negatives; just wait and see what the QuadTone RIP can do in Chapter 10. The Epson 2200 can also produce excellent blackand-white and color prints on a wide range of matte or glossy surfaces, although it can take some work to get these excellent results. The Epson 2200 has been the workhorse for many a digital darkroom for the past several years. It was an excellent printer in recent years, and still is one today, even though it has been replaced by newer printers.
