ABSTRACT

M ost photographers will be drawn to Photoshop’s potential as a tool for retouching photographs. As my colleague Jeff Schewe likes to say: ‘you know why Photoshop is so successful? Because reality sucks!’ Well, that’s Jeff’s viewpoint, but then he does come from a background in advertising. Other photographers, like Stephen Johnson, are wary of doing anything to a photograph that might change or misrepresent what they photographed originally. The techniques described in this chapter will teach you some of the basic techniques you will need to learn, such as how to spot a photograph and remove artifacts like dust spots, before going on to explore some of the more advanced techniques that can be used to clean up and repair damaged photographs.
