ABSTRACT

O ne of the key factors attributed to Photoshop’s success has been the program’s support for plug-in filters. A huge industry of third party companies has grown in response to the needs of users wanting extra features within Photoshop. John Knoll, who together with his brother Thomas Knoll originally wrote the Photoshop program, was responsible for creating many of the plug-ins that shipped with the earlier versions of Photoshop (they are still there in Photoshop). This open door development policy enabled many independent software companies to add creative tools and functionality to Photoshop. In turn this ongoing development can largely be attributed to the success of Photoshop as a professional image manipulation program.
