ABSTRACT

Computers have undoubtedly made an impact upon schools and children since they first began to appear in classrooms and homes. Their impact upon teachers, however, has, with some notable exceptions, been less marked. Many teachers still feel very suspicious about the new technology, and this suspicion has been exacerbated by the feeling that often their pupils know more about it than they do. In some primary schools the computer rarely ventures from the cupboard and in others it is employed running low-level drills. As an example of this consider the following classroom activity.
