ABSTRACT

One of the features of recent work in literacy and language, as we pointed out in our introduction, has been the realisation that the processes of language, listening, talking, reading and writing, have so many similarities it makes little sense to consider them entirely separately. Having attempted to base our review of language issues on this whole language perspective, it is not surprising that several predominant themes have emerged and re-emerged as we have covered the substantial ground which makes up literacy and language. To conclude the book, we shall briefly review the most important of these themes.
