ABSTRACT
Primary school children spend a large proportion of their day writing. They write about what they have done and will do, they write about what they have been told, and they write to practise writing. If we ask teachers why writing is such an important classroom activity, some reply that writing is one of ‘the basics’. It is a skill that we all need for effective functioning as adults in our society.
