ABSTRACT

The whole thrust of a positive system of management is directed towards eliciting and maintaining children’s appropriate behaviour in class, and towards minimising the occurrence of unwanted behaviour. In an ideal world, the classroom environment may, perhaps, provide cues which elicited all the acceptable behaviours from the outset and the consequences would ensure they continued to be shown. However, this is not an ideal world and it would indeed be odd, even disturbing, if children behaved in the ways we wanted all the time!
