ABSTRACT
The Munich agreement, which had been made by Adolf Hitler himself, was broken within six months. The diplomatic triumph of Munich was considerable; but he may well have believed that without the Munich settlement the Czechoslovak state would have collapsed, and its foreign supporters would all have found reasons for not intervening. In cartoon, Victor at the last minute!, which was drawn immediately after Munich, Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier, as the seconds of Peace, celebrate her triumph over the prostrate war-god. Hitler walks off with the Sudetenland in the background; but this is seen as a matter of minor importance in comparison with the outcome of the match. Cartoon Les rongeurs expresses a German view of three prominent British critics of the Munich agreement: Duff Cooper, who resigned from the Cabinet immediately afterwards, Winston Churchill and Anthony Eden.
