ABSTRACT
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations): total population of 400 mio., total land area of 3.3 mio sq.km, combined GDP of ECU 450 bio with an average growth rate of more than 7% per annum over last decade. Created in 1967 through a common declaration in Bangkok with the converse intention of reinforcing sovereignty and not on a treaty basis; members: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and (1995) Vietnam.
