ABSTRACT

The short course on preparing to manage artists is this: get some education, get

some experience, build a network, find some clients, and then go to work manag-

ing. This chapter includes details on some of those steps, but it also includes a dee-

per look into the realities of the business, and the character of the relationships that

a manager develops in the industry. And most importantly, it will help managers

understand realities that have an impact on their effectiveness at advancing the

careers of artist clients.
