ABSTRACT

The way in which Inverkeithing got involved with the project 1 was somewhere above my level in the hierarchy, but I would assume that someone in the region either thought that we were quite ‘go ahead’ with computers, or, more likely, that we were the closest school to Edinburgh and would therefore incur lowest phone bills! However, like many things, I knew nothing about Prestel, not even what it was, but was very keen to find out more. This aim has certainly been fulfilled, both for myself and for a lot of people in the school, both staff and pupils. We also quite soon realized that this was going to be a fruitful source of software for us, at a time when to a large extent we thought of software as something that we had to write ourselves.
