ABSTRACT

Located in northwestern Europe, the Kingdom of the Netherlands is bounded on the north and west by the North Sea, on the east by Germany and on the south by Belgium. The country’s overall land area is some 41,500 square kilometres (16,000 square miles) which includes more than 1,600 square miles of inland water, much of it reclaimed from the sea. The densely populated Coastal areas, in fact, are almost entirely below sea level.
