ABSTRACT

Although the Bhiigavata's story of KJ;"I?I).a is so like the versions in the HarivaT!1sa and the Vi$1!u, it is given a new significance in its retelling. This is done partly by the reinterpretation of the wellknown story and partly by the introduction of new episodes, particularly in the narrative of KJ;"I?I).a's childhood. This chapter will look at the Bhiigavata's KY$1!acarita under two headings: the retelling of the old story, already told in the HarivaJ?1Sa and the Vi$1!u, and the new episodes which are woven into it. Then it will compare the three KY$1!acaritas with each other.
