You will often need to use the Identify Beat feature to make sure that the bars and beats in Pro Tools match those in any imported audio regions or loops. You may also need to create tempo maps so that musicians can play faster or slower in different sections of the music, along with meter changes whenever these are needed. Even short pop songs sometimes have odd numbers of bars or beats or changing meters, and these are very common in music-to-picture. The meter, or time signature, defines the number of beats in a bar and the way they can be subdivided.
