Negotiating the contract Before we consider contract elements, it is important to understand that in this setting the artist and the manager will employ separate attorneys. There isn’t a circumstance where a single attorney can represent both parties to a contract without creating a
confl ict of interest. This is a business transaction involving negotiated provisions for two separate parties. By the nature of the transaction, it is required that the manager has an attorney to represent his or her interests regarding the terms of the agreement, and the artist must do the same.
