ABSTRACT
The business affairs department is where the lawyers of a label reside. Record company lawyers negotiate in the label’s best interest. Most often, new talent will have a manager and lawyer working on his behalf, with the contract in the middle. Clearly, the label wants to protect itself and hopes to reduce risk by maximizing the contract.
