ABSTRACT

This world consists of various things. In other words, this is a world of things. Because things exist, we can be aware of this world. If there were no things, we probably could not be conscious of our surroundings. Where a thing exists we feel its opposition or meet with some resistance. The fact that even in the dark we can feel the existence of things or that even the blind can perceive the presence of things derives from the fact that things exist in space. However, when we perceive things, we do so mainly with our eyes. So, in most cases we perceive the existence of a thing as a form occupying space. Therefore, we say a thing has a form or that which has a form is a thing. We find it difficult to imagine the existence of something we cannot see or that does not have a form; in fact, until rather recently, people remained unconvinced of the existence of things that did not have some kind of visible form.
