ABSTRACT
The change from nomadic wandering as hunters or gatherers to settled occupation of the land with the development of plant cultivation is recognized as the first real stage in growth of civilization. This critical event is generally thought to have taken place first in some part of the Middle East, though opinions differ as to the precise locality and the date.
