ABSTRACT

There are some softwares that automatically break down the audio into phonemes. The problem with using these automatic softwares, however, is that they do not differentiate yelling from soft voices, or run-on voices (quick speaking where a mouth moves very little) from overenunciated voices (where a mouth makes exaggerated movements). The automatic softwares are getting better, but many I’ve tested are not practical to use. Their output often took longer to decipher than it would have taken to break down the audio myself using softwares like Magpie. Also, the automatic phoneme output does not work the way animators do. Besides, when you do it yourself (with a software like Magpie), you get a better feel for the scene.
