ABSTRACT

Backgrounds Backgrounds may be illustrated and completed in any number of styles using any number of tools. Many animators and studios use Photoshop or Painter for their backgrounds. Others may prefer actual paint, pastels, pencils, photos, or even computer-generated (CG) backgrounds (Figure 27-1).

When backgrounds are painted in a computer program, the layout drawings are usually scanned and used as templates for the final piece. Illustrations that are finished by hand are then scanned and, if needed, enhanced in the computer. Very large backgrounds are scanned in pieces and then stitched back together in a paint program such as Adobe Photoshop (Figure 27-2).
