Copyright Many people don’t realize that once they complete a project, it is automatically protected by copyright. The current law, from 1978, states that a work of art is protected from the moment of its creation. Unless there are prior written contracts, such as a Work for Hire (contracted work where the contracting company owns all rights) or staff employment status that state other ownership of work, the creator owns the copyright of any piece he or she produces.
