ABSTRACT

The complexity that interactivity and linking add to a multimedia project demands strong high-level design and/or information architecture for the program to be coherent and effective. High-level design determines the broad conceptual approach to the project, including the structure, interface, map, organizing metaphors, and even input devices. To organize the complex elements of a multimedia or web production, the writer must learn organizational tools. The preliminary forms for many multimedia programs are proposals, design documents, and outlines. The elements of an informational design document include design objective, creative treatment, navigation, production, and marketing. Flowcharting is a particularly useful way to visualize an interactive program for clients and production team members.
