ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces multimedia and web sites that communicate information without using fictional storytelling techniques. The aspects of informational multimedia and web sites include: Definitions of nonnarrative informational multimedia and web sites, How to define the readers projects goal by considering business context, data, and users, and Techniques to achieve common informational multimedia and web site communication goals. Most multimedia and web sites are designed to communicate information or to allow users to perform information-based tasks. If the information being presented is about something concrete, such as a person or a place, informational multimedia follows the documentary tradition of presenting its information through the actual locations and individuals studied. A single use case will have a detailed description of a type of user and can have one or more user scenarios. Each user scenario describes the steps a user will take using the program and how the system should respond to meet user needs and achieve the client’s business goals.
