ABSTRACT

To be sure, digital shot costs are an important part of an effects-heavy picture’s budget. It has been convenient for us to deal with them first because they are so directly linked to the visual effects breakdown. But as we alluded to in the section on “Getting Started,” they’re only part of the story. The other—and actually much more complex—part is the scheduling and budgeting of all the production support—meaning the whole gamut of items pertaining to crews, personnel, equipment, facilities, purchases, rentals, and what-have-you that is needed to bring the visual effects to the screen. This is the thread we now follow.
