ABSTRACT

In “Devil’s Beauty”, my main idea was to paint a disturbing image with a strong atmosphere, and to show the strength, beauty and power of a subject which, at rst glance, seems cold and inhospitable. While tackling this image I told myself that it would be preferable, to better convey my ideas, not to be too focused on the realism but rather to suggest elements to render them more alive by fully using custom brushes. The challenge thus was to create a “beautiful” war scene by using, as raw material,

cold and hostile elements. The title of this illustration stems directly from this idea of a paradox between the devil (war) and its “beauty”.
