ABSTRACT

Ever since I was a kid, I have always been fascinated by the topic of space travel. I wanted to create a piece that is beautiful, yet still manages to capture the horric dangers that it presents. There are many variables that are stacked against the idea of space travel, and things eventually do go wrong. So, the scenario I chose for this piece was about a mother ship that has gone too close to a planetary gravitational pull. Luckily, one small vessel manages to break free from the mother ship, only to live another day. Numerous questions popped into my head while brainstorming this scenario. Would this ship be able to propel itself out of the planet’s gravitational pull? Would it survive the atmospheric reentry? Or, could the atmosphere even support humans, for that matter?
