ABSTRACT
White Teeth was created in a very short time – the quickest of all my pictures in fact. The basic concept was very simple: to make a character with a very large smile occuping more than half of the character’s head. I also had an image in mind of Tetsuo’s chair in Akira, where you see him hung on a stone chair. This is what I was after: a character hanging himself on an object, where you could imagine that he had literally just escaped from a mental institution. So it really came about from a mixture of different ideas. The only thing I didn’t want to do was to design a character with muscles and a too human-like face.
