ABSTRACT

A basic understanding of anatomy is vital in creating believable characters. Characters are often designed by how many of the character's head high they stand. This chapter offers information on anatomy. One of the best ways to study anatomy is to attend life drawing sessions. The skeleton is the framework of a human. The first thing to note about the skeletal anatomy of women is that the pelvis is wider and shallower than a man's. The arms and legs in a female are also thinner and shorter than those in a male. As with a male, the ideal female is usually depicted as being eight heads high. With the average woman being between seven and seven-and-a-half heads high. Males typically have less body fat than females. The male pelvis is much narrower than that of a female. Males also have much wider shoulders. All of these should be taken into account in any original designs.
