ABSTRACT

The way After Effects 3D works is unique in that it will allow you to mix 2D and 3D in the same composition. As far as I’m aware, at the time of writing this book, there is no other application that will allow you to do that. There are other compositing applications which will allow you to work in either 2D or 3D but After Effects allows you to mix them together in the same environment. This has loads of creative benefits and time-saving benefits which we’ll see as we explore all the features.

Synopsis Throughout this chapter, you will develop a good understanding of the basic capabilities of 3D in After Effects. Of course, there are a million creative ways to use these tools, and I can’t possibly attempt to cover all of them, it’s your job to experiment, have fun, and find out more tricks after you have completed this chapter! I will explain how to understand the 3D workspace; how you can mix 3D and 2D in the same environment, and lots of tricks and techniques using the After Effects lights and cameras.
